About the Photographer

MICHAEL G. STEWART is an award winning commercial, architectural and aerial photographer based in the Washington, D.C. area. For over 30 years, his images have appeared in newspapers, print publications and websites worldwide. He is the illustrator of 3 children’s books and a guide to the Scottish steel-string harp, as well as a coffee table book documenting the restoration of historic St. Matthew’s Cathedral entitled A Landmark Restored.
A noted photographer of musicians and performing artists, with over 300 album & CD covers to his credit for artists as varied as Tommy Emmanuel, Bill Kirchen, The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Eek A Mouse, Gene Bertoncini,Larry Coryell or Tony Trischka, Michael has also been the “go to” photographer for The National Council for the Traditional Arts and The National Endowment for the Arts for almost than 20 years.
Since 2004, Mr. Stewart has been a judge on the Packaging and Design committee for the GRAMMY awards.
Michael’s work with the Smithsonian Institution led to his association with Scott Chinery on the historic Blue Guitars project in 1997, as well as his long tenure as photographer in residence at the Smithsonian’s Jazz Café. He worked for 2 years documenting the contemporary art of the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Michael’s studio is now located in Berwyn Heights, Maryland and he welcomes the opportunity to talk to you about YOUR unique imaging project!
